The name Caballos del Corazón translates roughly to ‘Horses of the Heart’. This name conveys two equally relevant meanings: ‘horses with a lot of heart’, and ‘horses that reside within one’s heart’. The horses we raise fit both definitions perfectly. Courageous and athletic, they form intense bonds with their owners – bonds which their owners return many times over!
home1Caballos del Corazón is owned and operated by Julie Alonzo, a long-time aficionado of the Andalusian horse, who has been active in the International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) since 1996 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2006 and the Presidency in 2008, an office she held continuously through 2014.

She was one of the founders of USA Working Equitation, the nonprofit national governing body for the sport of Working Equitation and is active in helping to promote Working Equitation throughout the United States, actively competing in the sport with her Andalusians and Andalusian/Canadian crossbreds.

Our purebred Andalusians have won many National Championship titles. CDC Pacifica was the 2021 National Champion Andalusian Senior Mare; CDC Corazón was the 2016 National Champion Junior Filly and 2019 National Champion Hunt Seat Junior Horse. CDC Memoria was the 2014 National Champion Country Pleasure Driving, Open, and Country English Pleasure, Junior Horse, as well as the Reserve National Champion Working Equitation, L1, being shown by trainer Howard Peet.

CDC Memoria was Reserve National Champion Senior Mare at the 2015 IALHA Nationals in Virginia, competing against an extremely competitive and large class. At that same show, she won Reserve National Champion Spanish Senior Mare under Spanish judge Mercedes Gonzales Cort, and National Champion Country English Pleasure, Vintage Rider. This talented beauty won the Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse’s High Point P.R.E. Mundial Performance Horse, High Point P.R.E. Mundial Halter Mare, and High Point P.R.E. Mundial Working Equitation horse at that show as well. Quite a nice accomplishment! Along with her full sister, CDC Corazón, Memoria also captured the National Champion Get of Sire and Produce of Dam titles at the 2016 National Championships.

In addition to their breed show record, horses bred by Caballos del Corazón are proving themselves as high-quality Working Equitation horses. CDC Memoria, was the IALHA 2014 and 2016 Working Equitation Reserve National Champion at the novice level.  In 2015, Julie and CDC Memoria were #1 in the National Standings for Novice Level Horse/Rider pair. They moved up to Intermediate A in 2017, and they have consistently been in the top five on the National Leaderboard in the sport every year in which they have competed. Another home-bred horse, CDC Luna, took home $3500 in prize money for her fourth-place win at the All-Breed WE Haras Cup competition in a very high-quality class of 21.

CDC Corazón and her amateur-owner Karin Hansen, CDC Lutador and his owner Rochelle O’Connor, and CDC Besita and her owner Heather Humelbaugh are consistently in the top five on the National Leaderboard for Working Equitation at the levels in which they compete. CDC Amante, a Lusitano x Canadian gelding owned by Bridgett Klingler and CDC Vindicación, an Andalusian x Canadian mare owned by Julie Alonzo, are showcasing the versitility and trainability of the Iberian x Canadian crosses that we’re quite excited about.

Our goal is to raise exceptional horses through a selective breeding program, where we pair champion mares and stallions that meet the requirements for breeding-quality stock established centuries ago in Spain and Portugal and nurture the resulting foals into healthy, well-adjusted life partners.

Our horses compete in open and IALHA Regional and National competitions; they excel at disciplines requiring athleticism and performance ability; they are family companions of the highest caliber. Each year, we offer a select number of horses for sale and seek always to find a true partnership between horse and potential future owner. For us, it’s not about closing a sale quickly; it’s about making a match with the potential to last a lifetime.

If you’re looking for a high-quality, athletic, and intelligent horse, you’ve come to the right place!
