2009 Pure Spanish Andalusian Mare
Born in mid-April, 2009, Memoria is a living testament to the power of dreams. This beautiful bay Pure Spanish filly is named in memory of horseman Vaughan Smith, whose passing left the Andalusian world mourning the loss of one of our most talented trainers and beloved friends. From her first steps, she has clearly been destined for greatness. She will be retained as a permanent and valued member of the Caballos del Corazón herd. Memoria’s stature and build are reminiscent of her sire Hilandero X and maternal grandsire, legendary Indiano XVIII.
Memoria is registered as a purebred Spanish Andalusian with the IALHA, and is revised with P.R.E. Mundial as an approved P.R.E. breeding mare.
At her first National Show, in 2012, Memoria won Top Five honors at the IALHA National Championship and Foundation Celebration in the Spanish Junior Mares class, competing against four-year olds. She earned a second place award in her Foundation morphology class, under Spanish breed expert Mercedes Gonzales Cort, and was awarded “Mejor Movimiento” (best movement) in that class. She also earned Top Five Honors in English Pleasure Hunt Seat, Jr. Horse and Country English Pleasure, Jr. Horse, at the Nationals.
In 2014, Memoria earned National Champion Country Pleasure Driving, Open, and Country English Pleasure, Junior Horse titles, as well as the Reserve National Champion Working Equitation, L1, being shown by trainer Howard Peet.
A year later, she was Reserve National Champion Senior Mare at the 2015 IALHA Nationals in Virginia, competing against an extremely competitive and large class. At that same show, she won Reserve National Champion Spanish Senior Mare under Spanish judge Mercedes Gonzales Cort, and National Champion Country English Pleasure, Vintage Rider. This talented beauty won the Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse’s High Point P.R.E. Mundial Performance Horse, High Point P.R.E. Mundial Halter Mare, and High Point P.R.E. Mundial Working Equitation horse at that show as well. Quite a nice accomplishment!
CDC Memoria won Reserve Champion Working Equitation L1 at the 2016 IALHA National Show, and placed first in the Speed trial to tie for Reserve Champion Working Equitation Novice Level at the 2016 Andalusian World Cup. Along with her full sister, CDC Corazón, she also captured the National Champion Get of Sire and Produce of Dam titles at the 2016 National Championships.
Most recently, Memoria has been competing successfully in Working Equitation. She was the High Point Andalusian competing in the sport in 2016 and the Reserve High Point Andalusian competing in 2018. In 2018, she was also the National #1 Horse competing at the Intermediate A level in the sport.
Memoria has given us two foals so far: the handsome CDC Va Por Ti, by the late Fugitivo XII, now proudly owned by Victor Melendrez of Eugene, Oregon, and CDC Vindicación, who will stay with us.
In 2018, we bred Memoria to the beautiful palomino Canadian stallion Metistar Taj Mahal Amaro . The resulting foal, CDC Vindicación, will be registered with the IALHA as a Half-Andalusian. “Vinnie” will join the Caballos del Corazón performance horse family as she matures. We’re very excited about her potential!
